[edit] Wiki Style Proposals
I am looking for people interested in discussing template styles and mass reformatting to clean up the wiki.
[edit] Commandline Template
After reading through a few pages, I propose that all commands should be block displays. This allows a user to skim the article by reading through the commands issued, instead of hunting for them through the descriptive text.
A regular command, issued as the user. Easily noticed, good padding, clear text.
emerge gentoo-sources
cd /usr/src/linux
or maybe following some Gentoo related colors:
emerge --sync
A command issued as root. Follows aforementioned command format, red color as warning.
emerge gentoo-sources
Also, icons (possibly from the Tango Project) could be used on the right side of the command box. This may be a bit distracting when it is used repetitively, however.
[edit] Output/Results Template
There should be a template for the output of a command. Most articles seem to use {{Box Code}} for this.
[edit] Deprecated Template
Someone on the forum suggested that articles be marked as deprecated. This would serve two purposes:
- to mark old articles for editors to look into
- to notify readers of potentially useless information.
[edit] Wikification Template
Wikification header template should have a timestamp/contact person so that anyone who contributes to the wikification process can notifiy the contact. Possible image coming soon...
Please format this article according to the guidelines and Wikification suggestions, then remove this notice.

[edit] Cleanup Template
This article has been marked for cleanup. Once it is cleaned, please remove this notice.

[edit] Organizational Proposals
The following pages should be mostly empty, no?
[edit] Template Categorization
Templates seem to fall into the following categories:
- Inline - Filenames, variables: special highlighting to make certain things stand out.
- Box - Commands, Output, Warnings, Tips, etc.
- Header - Categorical Headers to tie entire sets of articles together.
- Sidebar - Based on large categories (i.e. the Gnome sidebar)
- Notice - Wikification, Deletion, Under Development, etc.
- Series - All templates related to a series of articles (i.e. the HOWTO_Email:_A_Complete_Virtual_System)
A naming convention should be put into place so Templates can be easily used/remembered by all editors. For example, {{Category TemplateName}}.
[edit] Namespaces
As already suggested here, the HOWTO, TIP, etc before names should be removed, as it makes no sense semantically. I don't know enough about MediaWiki to propose a proper solution, but stay tuned.
