Regarding the use of a read-only floppy as offline-storage: What about using a USB flash drive (with a physical read-only switch), storing the data on a dedicated (and possibly encrypted) partition?

My server hasn't gone live yet; in the meantime, I store the Tripwire files in /root. It's secure because only root can so much as read the files, but I don't like the idea of storing it on the server itself. I like the idea of a flash drive with a switch. SignOfZeta 01:46, 24 July 2007 (UTC)
If the problems for ssmtp is in the headers sent, set
MAILPROGRAM=/bin/tr -d '\r' | /usr/lib/sendmail -oi -t
in your tripwire config.
I think it would be a good idea to really make clear that the 'automatic comment function' in twpol.txt yoiu are using will comment out important files which are in fact existing in the gentoo-installation.
It is likely that files are commented out which in fact are existing on your system. For example 'nice' is located in /usr/bin while the tripwire file think it's in /bin.
Right?
