So, How do we set it up to work in Gentoo... what commands and files do we have to edit to make it work?

I'm NOT going to run startx every time I want X.

You have to remove the requirements for the nvidia-drivers package in the xorg-server ebuild as well. Also doing the digest isn't necessary.

I found that actually the only way I could get text to appear is having Subpixel hintin ON. Interesting. I am using XFCE4.

I tried it with Freetype with and without bindist and this was the only way I could get it to work.
