[edit] Install section superflous
I don't agree that a usual install doesn't install mencoder binary.. Using it from subversion, it certainly does. Using portage, it should if you enable the encode USE flag.. So maybe that is the way to go in the documentation/article as well.. --Kraymer 10:20, 5 October 2006 (UTC)
@Kraymer, you read the page wrong. If you install it manually it will not create the mencoder binary in /usr/bin for you. That's because it is in contribs/ directory. The ebuild will install it. SDibb 22:36, 30 November 2006 (UTC)
- I still don't know what you're talking about. If by manually you mean compiling and installing from svn sources, you're plain wrong. Building mplayer and mencoder binaries is default, and installing them too of course. I suspect you're talking about foreign sources because the MPlayer source tree doesn't have a contribs/ directory..
- A user came up with some confusions about that on the mplayer-users mailing list and fortunately, someone removed these instructions from the wiki (please don't add them again). I had forgotten about that issue somehow.. --Kraymer 14:35, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
Holy cow that comment of mine is old. You're right, of course. If you install mplayer now from svn, it will install mencoder by default for you. With the ebuilds its just a matter of +encode and yer done. :) SDibb 17:23, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
- Great we agree on that now :) (Feel free to remove this discussion if you want.. And agreed to the comment on user questions here.) --Kraymer 17:47, 26 March 2007 (UTC)
