When I push the button, the light doesn't turn on and I see the following message in dmesg:
[ACPI Debug] String: [0x22] "=====Not support WMI function====="

- It seems that CONFIG_SMP was breaking ipw3945; will investigate further--Kernel dan 03:03, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
* Checking for suitable kernel configuration options... * ipw3945-1.1.3 requires support for Generic IEEE 802.11 Networking Stack (CONFIG_IEEE80211). * CONFIG_IEEE80211_CRYPT_CCMP: is not set when it should be. * CONFIG_IEEE80211_CRYPT_TKIP: is not set when it should be. * Please check to make sure these options are set correctly. * Failure to do so may cause unexpected problems. * Once you have satisfied these options, please try merging * this package again.
Cant get it to work on amd64.. I have disable everything that has to do with the generic stack but it still complains.
[edit] iwp3945 on kernel 2.6.19+
when I upgraded my kernel to 2.6.19 sources ipw3945 stopped connecting to wireless networks (no matter id encrypted or not). I didn't succeed by apllying the procedure of emerging ieee80211 and ipw3945 as I did on kernel 2.6.18. I found the solution, when I read a post of someone using ipw3945 and NetworkManager on Gentoo. I kept kernel 2.6.19 built in ieee80211 subsystem and emerged unstable version ipw3945-1.2.0.
[edit] So simple (iwl3945)
If it's so simple to play with the udev rules, how comes you care about documenting (if we can call documenting) ? How comes you don't have a line to show. For me, it's not a documentation, it's showing off ! I did it, and I will not tell you how for it's so simple !
- Perhaps you shouldn't be so selfish. If you think it should have been included, instead of complaining here about it, you could have just updated the article to include the information. - Oracleguy 05:47, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe I didn't because I DON'T HAVE IT ! Maybe I don't think it's so simple, after all. Can you imagine ?
04:17 9 May 2008: Better walkthru at http://gentoo-wiki.com/HARDWARE_Santech_X3620#Kernel_.3E.3D2.6.24_2. Took two days to find tihs, has differing kernel configurations than those listed here.
Frustrated user here, on HP nx6310. This shit sucks balls. I switched from ipw to iwlwifi. I have a kill switch which is not working yet (I dont think anyway). Stupid thing wont turn blue with iwlwifi. So now Im trying to go back to ipw, but the howto is so confusing! Why did you guys decide to mesh to separate things together??
