Just a question, but aren't there all sorts of modeline generators on the internet? I mean the GTF (Generalized Timing Formula) is no big secret. Why is finding modelines such a big deal?

Reply:

I didn't think it was a big deal, but my TV is very picky, and there are many variations on the standard 720p/1080i resolutions. Very few ended up working with my TV, and many looked terrible.

I would hope that with most TVs it isn't a big deal, and perhaps it shouldn't be.

Question: Can you supply the info on here on how to use S-Video out on the Nividia cards that do not have DVI out? I cannot seem to find any info for S-Video out, only VGA or DVI. I'm trying to connect to an Optoma EP 739 DLP Projector via s-video. I cannot seem to find a dot clock stat for this either, so modeline generators aren't easy to use.

This article should help you:

[edit] Native Resolution

How can I get a native resolution, such as the Syntax Olevia 37-inch's resolution of 1366*768 working with the nVidia blob drivers? I keep trying, but it always seems to fail mode validation.

[edit] HDTV via DVI/HDMI

I believe that the 1080i/p and 720i/p modelines should be independent on TV manufacturer. Since any video source capable of outputing these formats (upsampling DVD-player, BLU-RAY, HD-DVD) over HDMI does not know anything about the TV set other than the resolution set by the user in the preferences on the player, it should be possible to create universal modelines for 1080i/p and 720i/p 50 and 60 Hz and letting the TV take care of fitting the input signal to that TV's panel. If you are using VGA, I guess it's more important to know something about the TV's capabilities. Also I think it is impossible to show 1366*768 on many TV sets if you are using the HDMI input. The article could be clearer on this.
