[edit] gdm/xdm/kdm?

Anyone know if it'd be possible to incorporate a hibernate menu option into these login manager's interfaces? 86.129.225.142 03:12, 2 Jul 2005 (GMT)

GDM actually has a "Suspend" option that you can enable by manually editing the config.
There are two lines to edit: one to show the suspend option, one to set which command it runs. Kepstin 20:43, 29 March 2006 (GMT)

[edit] Screenshot?

Does anybody have a clue how to create a nice screenshot for this HOWTO? Of course I know about fbgrab but I'd like to create one with a progress bar in silent mode. Didn't find any info on that.. --Kraymer 04:39, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Simply use qemu inside your normal linux box. Then hibernate the qemu mashine and make screen from it. --User:83.24.251.95 16:55, 23 December 2006
Take a picture with your digital camera if you are lazy to install qemu :) --User:218.186.11.1 00:08, 12 May 2007
I'm not sure if you can hibernate with QEMU without doing any harm to your system. The camera solution would be a simple solution, but personally I think the screenshot isn't the most urgently needed thing here. --Swift 14:09, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ATI users ??

Does anybody oppose to moving/removing the ATI users section? IMO pasting whole configurations in the HOWTO is massive bloat. It would be good to filter the options that are actually needed instead of posting everything.. --Kraymer 07:23, 19 December 2006 (UTC)

Well, being a radeon mobile user trying to get suspend working, I'd like to have it for just a little while longer ... ;-)
Actually, I think it's better to move, rather than delete, it. The whole thing needs to be reorganised anyway. Perhaps move it to a page with info on that card? --Swift 14:37, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Switching off ACPI

can anybody tell why how to switch off the APIC options in the kernel? I turned off SMP, but it has no effect. --User:217.10.38.34 19:28, 20 August 2007

I assume you're referring to ACPI (Advanced Configuration and Power Interface). This is controlled in the "Power management options" section in the menuconfig interface (see kernel compilation docs for more on that).
This has little to do with SMP (Symmetric MultiProcessing) which is used for systems that run on multiple CPUs. --Swift 18:49, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Breaking this page up

I'm inclined to break this terribly long page into subpages. The obvious sectioning would be something like:

  1. Introduction
  2. Prerequisites and installation
  3. Configuration and use
  4. Troubleshooting and other issues etc.

The first and last sections could reside on the main page with the others linked from there.

A good time clean house would be when the first TuxOnIce packages come out of masked. It might even be a good time to rewrite the whole thing. --Swift 19:06, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Beyond Sources

Should we remove the reference for beyond-sources since it (and -ck for that matter) is no longer maintained? Just a thought. I might do this myself sometime if there are no objections. I'll put a warning in for now. Timhoppen 01:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Yes, I think we should. Good call. --Swift 04:16, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
Sorry. Was cleaning, got impatient, and yanked it. --Swift 06:25, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] just integrate the damn thing like in windows or fedora

can you please just put the damn hibernation support into gentoo without the need of doing all the operations described on this page ?

ok, it works, but how do I tell it not to switch from X to console at the end of resume ? --89.41.72.11 20:32, 20 February 2008 (UTC)
