Sinewalker So far the only bug I am aware of is that my proposed changes to /etc/ppp/options actually don't work, and cause pppd to exit with errors after dialing the ISP. I guess I'll have to research it some more.

In the mean-time, it works without those modifications. I'm just unsure about the security implications now that pppd is setuid root. As I am the only user on my system, it's not a problem for me, but it could be an issue for others...

[edit] Ltmodems and there requirments

I added some more instructions about ltmodems, its my own experince with reading from different sources and finally getting it right, i was successful in installing Lucent 1646 linmodem in Gentoo 2006.1, the most important links which helped me have been added to this article.
