[edit] Over the Air in the US

I'm new to HTPCs and HDTV specifics, and this section is entirely cryptic to me. It seems like the pcHDTV cards are able to receive OTA digital/HDTV transmissions, just like the DVB cards, so what is the meaning of this section at all? Could someone knowledgable please improve this section?

[edit] Added warning for newer ivtv version and kernels

I added a warning that the recommended versions are ivtv 0.4.x with a kernel version the same or lower as 2.6.15. See bug 123575 for more details

[edit] General instructions?

This article has no general instructions for getting a TV tuner card to work. Maybe sections for analogue and digital cards could be included, with more specific instructions in seperate sections for common cards such as the Hauppauge cards. Just a thought, this page wasn't very helpful for me when setting up my card. --Lorian 12:18, 12 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Removed everything

This article was pretty useless really, it had no general details and only info for a few specific cards. I have got rid of everything and stuck it here, replacing the article with links to the V4L wikis which do decent jobs explaining what to do. --Lorian 15:52, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree that this page was too large and unorganized. Maybe we could break each of the specific card guides into separate pages (1 for each type of card) and link to them from here? There are only a handful of common capture cards, and I think the guide would be more complete if we included instructions on setting them up.

That sounds good to me. What I'm thinking is have general instructions on setting up analog and digital cards, with links to the V4L wikis which have details on setting up specific cards in the kernel. I have a DVB digital card so I could help sort that article out. So we would also need someone with an analog card, and someone with an ATSC card, which presumably works slightly different to DVB. --Lorian 21:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't there be at least a little bit of information on this page. Or at least a link on the bottom to the old version of this page. I am not quite sure why the stuff was removed. Sure it wasn't pretty but at least it was better than nothing.
