Talk:HOWTO From Winamp to XMMS

Is the Configuring KDE part really necessary?
Perhaps for an older version entirely? I restarted XMMS and enabled the plugin, clicking it an *poof*, XMMS disappeared into the tray. 68.110.115.17 23:47, 10 November 2005 (GMT)

Bring it back!! XMMS is simply the greatest music player EVER for Linux or any other OS for that matter. Nothing matches the simplicity and speed XMMS offered (offers still). Bring back the ebuilds and plugins! I'm sorry but Audacious is pure a$$ compared to XMMS. It's slow, chunky, and hangs a hell of a lot more often. Don't even get me started on the large pieces of crap known as Rythmbox and whatever piece of monkey feces KDE uses.

Eh complicado apagar material preparando, e este esta bom, ainda num entendi pq resolveram tirar o xmms da arvore do gentoo... mas q droga, quem decide os programas que sao e nao sao da arvore do portage,,, e eu vou escrever em portugues sim!

[edit] Don't erase

Even if XMMS is not in the portage tree enymore, the information on this page can still be of help to others.

People may still run XMMS either by keeping it around (ie not unmerging it), or by means of an overlay.

I am sure there are more reasons...

A migration guide to potential successors (for example audacious ) would be helpful.

XMMS is a versatile piece of software that makes very efficient use of resources (which, if you ask me, is a big part of what Linux is all about!). It's still my favourite player (despite all the newer and flashier ones, like amarok). There are still lots of XMMS users out there, please don't delete this!
