I have everything working well, but alsamixer isn't controlling the volume. Changing the volume on my hardware mixer works fine, but it would be nice to have control in software. Is this possible when using digital passthrough? Blarson 17:53, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

nope! this isn't possible. Your computer is outputting the sound at native volume. It's not passing thru any sort of hardware (analog) or software mixers, so what you're getting into your amp is the same thing as if you had a hardware dvd player hooked up to your amp.

[edit] AC3 as Stereo

For some reason when I play an AC3 avi file the reciever sees only stereo. Why is that? playing the same file in windows with AC3filter makes the reciever switch to 5.1 mode. any ideas?
