This all worked for me with version of sys-fs/udev greater than 114. Earlier versions of udev may block hal. --Dnt2wiki 18:36, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

There is a ebuild for pmount, though it's not in Portage yet: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=69575

1.) It should be mentioned that the menu looks like rubbish afterwards.
2.) With the current version of Gentopia-portage it is not working at all.

Q: to 1.) what menu? Gentopia Server is down since some days

Should be noted that pmount needs to have the /media/ directory created for it.

This page needs updating. pmount is in the offical tree now, and no longer in gentopia

The correct (as mentioned in the linked kde wiki page) versions are important, quote from the wiki:
"D-BUS is currently located at ... Currently KDE does not support version 0.31 or later. Use 0.23.x.
HAL is located at ... Currently KDE does not support version 0.5.0 or later. Use 0.4.8."

I use those values in /etc/portage/package.keywords, which unmaskes only the correct versions in the current portage tree:

<sys-apps/dbus-0.36 ~x86
<sys-apps/hal-0.5.4 ~x86

[edit] There should be a short HOWTO D-Bus article

A short article on setting up d-bus on a gentoo system would be very helpful. It is tricky to use this article to install *just* d-bus - I dont want HAL or KDE.
