[edit] Not working on rt2400

Its unable to set master mode on ralink 2400...

Error for wireless request "Set Mode" (8B06) :
SET failed on device ra0 ; Invalid argument.

Using driver rt2400-cvs-2008051522.

[edit] Its a guide for prism54s...

So it applies to all cards based on the chipset.

[edit] I've also been given a prism2.5...

Which uses the HostAP driver, so I'll add that in Real Soon Now (tm). I got the card working last night, in no time at all - documenting it will probably take longer! Adding that in will also help me make the focus of the article more generic, and focus slightly less on the Allnet.

[edit] Prism has new versions with 'crippled' hardware...

...which is likely to NEVER be supported. it is claimed in the very Prism driver page, they reccommend others. I am now configuring a dlink card using madwifi, which is currently on portage. it could be made more generic to include drivers for other chipsets, like the atheros one.

[edit] WPA?

Is there any way to make a WPA-encrypted wireless AP with gentoo? -- XAvAX

Yesssss!!! Some hints about WPA would be nice... maybe external URIs? Even if pointing to the reasons why this can not be done... -- Rufus T. Firefly-Monroe

LeON 18:45, 18 December 2007 (UTC) - done.

[edit] interesting hostap info for deviscape/mac80211 drivers

somone at rt2x00 pointed me theses patches(waiting for the ap functionality of the 2.6.25 kernel) http://marc.info/?l=linux-wireless&m=119339497311598&w=2

I think I'll write about it when it works ;) LeON 18:21, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
