Adapting this xorg.conf file and the 8178 driver, I seem to be stuck running a virtual resolution that's almost always one level up from my current settings.

My xorg.conf

Even though I'm running in 1400x1050, the screen resolution seems to be in 1600x1200, and the remainder is stuck off the screen. The screen doesn't pan to the extra space, though the mouse will travel off-screen into it. Any suggestions?

Also, I couldn't get sky2 working at all. Chalk it up to being a newbie. skge worked for me. ipw2200 also appears to have finicky problems with wpa_supplicant. I'm going to try xsupplicant instead to see how it goes.

[edit] NVIDIA r8174 bug

It turns out that this is a documented bug with the nvidia driver. I'm running 8178 now, and the bug still afflicts it. I guess I'll just have to wait for the next driver release, and run VESA in the mean time.

You might try an older driver, 7676, without GLX (make sure to remove "glx" from xorg.conf and not to emerge nvidia-glx). Ahbritto 06:02, 5 February 2006 (GMT)

A workaround has been posted at NVNews.net detailing how to fix this issue (add 'Option "ExactModeTimingsDVI" "TRUE"' to xorg.conf). A new driver is now available (8756), but it is currently unknown if it fixes this bug.
