[edit] SiI 3112 card working
I have managed to get the SiI 3112 card working with kernel 2.6.13. Still trying to get everything working properly, but at least I can mount cd's...that's a start, right? if you have any questions feel free to email me epound at fusionoverkill dot com
lspci output:

---SATA optical drives - burning and kernel 2.6.15!---
Just want to go on record and say that kernel 2.6.15 has fairly excellent SATA support and it is possible to get a SATA burner working with it. My experience is limited to using a Plextor PX-716SA with an ASUS A8N-E motherboard, which uses an nVidia nForce4 SATA controller. Providing you compile the proper SATA and ATAPI support into the kernel, you should just have to add the following to the kernel line of grub.conf:
"libata.atapi_enable=1"
While in older kernels this only added reading functionality, burning w/ cdrecord and all the respective related culprits and front-ends (i.e. K3b) seems to work just fine under 2.6.15.
UPDATE 09/22/07: None of this seems to work for anything past 2.6.18. SATA support has changed dramatically since. Allegedly we don't need all that IDE/ATAPI stuff now, but I can't get my DVD-RW working correctly now (machine locks and/or reboots on attempt to mount!), even though my SATA hard drives work just fine...

[edit] Any Words on SATA2?
It would be helpful if some SATA2 information can be added.

[edit] CK804 Nvidia Serial ATA
Has anyone had success with this setup? After formatting my drive (ext3cow first partition, ext3 on the second), the first partition worked fine. But the second just had ? ? ? as dirctories. I thought maybe the ext3cow partition was messing things up so I reformatted both as ext3, now they are both hosed. Anyone worked through similar?
