Talk:Hauppauge WinTV PVR-500
From Gentoo Linux Wiki
The page says that the tuners from the kernel will interfere with ivtv. I have them all as modules and it works just fine. Possibly the issue is that tuner.o was not replaced, the tuner.o from ivtv isn't the same as the tuner.o from kernel.org.
Also, i'd like to hear success stories from people who installed 0.4 from portage.
I just answered a post incorrect cardtype this on the forums, so i'm going to add that as well.

Oh, and would it be possible to take credit for what each person posted. i didn't do it orignally, but now i see that it might be needed. the article reads as if it were written by a single person, but it was not. this is confusing because when I (thchris) say that "i've done this to get it working" and someone else adds, "i had to do this other thing", well, it looks like a single person had to do both things (which might be mutually exclusive.)
-thchris (and i just realized i must look like a pothead with thc in my name. that was a typo though...)
[edit] This page has old information
Hello, The latest ivtv drivers should detect the pvr-150/500 without problems. Also most of the info is now incorrect.
I am testing the PVR-150 with IVTV 1.0.3-r1 that is in portage.

[edit] Anyone can feel free to modify this page
I agree that the information is out of date. When i first made this page last year, i did so because I struggled so much getting my PVR to work with ivtv0.3. Most of the info is the original info. I know that ptune has fallen away, and ivtv probably works better with auto-detect (though i've always had issues with it). when i wrote this orignally, there was no working ebuild, and things were overall confusing.
The information has largely served its purpose -- of showing how the pvr500 and ivtv0.3 could be set up and forced into working. More interesting and relevent issues, like the ivtv-per-kernel stuff is really now the relevent topics.
I'd suggest leaving a section for the manual settings, as an "if all else fails" part.
but in short, I won't be mad if the community maintains this how-to. I no longer see it as "mine" given the dated nature of the info.
