[edit] Variations of 3000 N100

So far I have read about more than a dozen variations of this laptop. I have yet another one here (0768-BJG). What is the best way to mark the differences?

[edit] LCD Resolution

The article states: According to the technical specs, the LCD resolution is 1280x800, unless you have the "VibrantView" and a 15.4" screen, in which case it is 1680x1050.

This isn't entirely accurate. I recently purchased a new N100 with a Core 2 Duo T5500 and 15.4" VibrantView screen, and the resolution is not 1680x1050 (WSXGA+) but rather 1280x800 (WXGA). I confirmed this by booting into the pre-installed Windows XP and checking the installed Intel video driver's settings -- it doesn't allow any resolutions higher than 1280x800.

The only N100s currently offered on Lenovo's online store with WSXGA+ appear to be those equipped with a Core 2 Duo T7200. Alex Tarkovsky 16:18, 14 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Sound problems

I have the same sound-card as mentioned in this article. It does work too, according to this article but I have some additional problems:

  • Neither the internal nor the external microphone is working.
  • The volume is too low in general. I have to turn my speakers all the way up to have a normal volume.
  • Especially bass gives some disturbing noises and creaks. Maybe connected to the low volume.

[edit] BIOS Upgrades

Has anybody figured out a way to upgrade the BIOS on this without Windows? None of the thinkpad methods seem to work; the windows update executable is the right kind of file, but has the wrong contents, and it's unclear what's the new BIOS image and if it's in the right format, and it doesn't seem (so far as I can tell) to be the right thing to put together into an ISO. Also, the program I saw for handling in-system flash doesn't recognize anything in my system.
