Talk:HARDWARE HP SE L2005CL
From Gentoo Linux Wiki
Hey read your post, I'm happy to find someone else trying to get this laptop working. I'm having a ton of trouble with it, trying to follow some of the directions from the r4000 list, since most of the "problematic" hardware is the same. My version is an ml-37 1gig ram 100gb drive, ati 200m, and the broadcom + bluetooth for wifi. I cannot get anything on it to work. I'm actually installing debian, but I don't think there is much of a difference.... I'd really appreciate if you can give me some pointers on the following issues:
I'm running kernel 2.6.13
wifi - I downloaded ndiswrapper and broadcom 64bit G drivers, ndis compiles and when I do a -i to install the driver it goes fine, but the device isn't present, modprobe probes the module, and its inserted fine, but don't see any wlan or "hardware present" in ndis.
ati - here is where the problems start, if I use the regular ati driver in the kernel (2.6.13) everything seems to be ok until I start kde, and the whole device hard freezes. I downloaded various versions of the ati driver, I do an alien on the rpm to get a deb. none of them compile even though I've tried some of the fixes from the r4000 list. The latest one (the one that you are using) does compile, but after installing and running kde (X) I get a black screen with some shadows of text that I can type in, but nothing I can really use.
So far these two problems are pretty much halting capablitiy of using the machine in linux....
Any help (broadcom drivers, xorg.conf, ati compiled drivers for 2.6.13) or just pointers in general would be very helpful. thanks
