I've found if you also use the option position_fix=1 with the snd_hda_intel module eliminates some noise/cracking effects. This is with Debian though, so might not make a difference.

I've added this one since I had some noises, too. But they seem to be gone with Linux 2.6.15. --Barachiel 09:56, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
