HOWTO wine-games Installation

[edit] Introduction

Installing Windows programs and games can sometimes be difficult because wine can run the games but not the installation...

So most people use a Windows installation to avoid such problem but this is problematic for people who have not a windows installation or who just do not want to reboot or install Windows(takes some HDD space)

Here we won't have a miracle solution...but it's mostly a guideline for developers and a repository of link for users.

Some people have thought about making an ebuild for wine-games which would solve the installation problem and is mostly complete (works for multiple versions of the game, and needs some help from users that have a new version).

there is a portage tree that can install the following games:

  • Baldur's Gate
  • Baldur's Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast
  • Baldur's Gate II: Shadows of Amn
  • Baldur's Gate II: Throne of Bhaal
  • Icewind Dale
  • Icewind Dale: Heart of Winter
  • Icewind Dale: Trials of the Luremaster (free downloadable add-on)
    • Supported: de-version (you have to register for free before you can download) and us-version
  • Icewind Dale II

in order to install the tarball you need the forum thread(HOWTO inside) or the script
