Samsung's 205BW 20" LCD monitor has a native resolution of 1680x1050 and will work at native resolution with Xorg.

I had particular problems getting the sync and refresh rates correct. If they are not specified correctly the monitor will work reasonably in resolutions up until native, at which point it will operate in a lower resolution while Xorg appears to operate at native (Check reported resolution from Xorg compared to the monitor's OSD reported resolution). This results in abysmal text display. The configuration below works fine for me.
